Was It Casual has no accounts and never asks who you are. Browsing the situation library happens entirely on your device. When you ask for a decode — where you describe your own situation in your own words — that description is sent to our server and on to Anthropic's Claude API to write the response. It is not stored, by us, at any point.
Three things leave your phone: the text you wrote, which of our situations it most closely matched, and an anonymous subscriber identifier from RevenueCat. Our server checks that identifier against your subscription, forwards your text and the matched situation to Anthropic, and returns the result to you.
Our server writes no database and keeps no file. Its log line for a decode records the matched situation name and the number of tokens used — never your text and never your identifier. Your words exist in our memory for the seconds the request takes, and then they are gone.
Anthropic processes your text in order to generate the decode. Under their commercial terms, API inputs are not used to train their models, and they retain inputs and outputs for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring. See Anthropic's privacy policy. This is the one place your words go that is not us — if you would rather not send something, don't; the situation library works without it.
You do not need to name anyone for a decode to work. Describing what happened is enough, and it gives a better read than a transcript does. Please don't paste anything you would not want processed by a third party.
Which situations you have opened, which you have saved, and your decode history. This is stored locally by the app, is never uploaded, and is deleted when you delete the app.
Subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google and by RevenueCat, which manages subscription status on our behalf. They receive an anonymous identifier and your purchase status — never your name, your messages, or which situations you read. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
We hold that same anonymous identifier in memory for up to an hour, with nothing but timestamps, purely to enforce the hourly decode limit.

Was It Casual is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
